The term 'Web application' typically refers to an application or program that is accessed with a Web browser over a network such as the Internet or an Intranet.  Web applications can serve users without installing software on the client computers making them easy to deploy and maintain. Common Web applications include Webmail, online auctions and online forums.

 Currently there is a movement in the computer industry to further advance the concept of software as a service that can be used on a subscription basis.
